With the ambitious EU decarbonisation targets to 2050 arise many questions about the future of gas. The importance of renewable gases such as bio-methane, hydrogen, and synthetic gas is expected to grow in the future.
In light of this, CERRE will present the results and policy recommendations of its new report ‘Future markets for renewable gases & hydrogen: What would be the optimal regulatory provisions?’
This new report, led by CERRE Research Fellow Prof. Jose Luis Moraga from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is designed to provide a significant contribution to the upcoming gas package which the European Commission is due to publish towards late 2019-early 2020.
This project analyses the current status and potential development of renewable gases. It also gives clear recommendations on what would be the optimal regulatory provisions for well-functioning European markets, in particular for the production, transmission and storage of the molecules and the integration of energy systems (electricity, gas, heat).
